Try! with Nate Dern

A podcast about the pursuit.

Hosted by The Tonight Show writer Nate Dern, each episode of Try! interviews a comic trying something new in their life. It's dedicated to all of those who get outside of their comfort zone and try something different, learn a skill, or just experience something new.

The brand is rough around the edges, literally. I created a few concepts to explore after chatting with Nate and we’re both liked the idea of the visuals being “in progress,” just like the guests. It can’t be too polished— it should be fun and inspirational and nerdy. I worked with illustrator Julia Romano to show Nate in different stages of finished. His glasses would work as a bridge between the triptych.

The color palette is rooted in beige drafting paper textures with the addition of bronze, silver, and gold as accents.

Quote from the client

“Nathan is an amazing artist and designer … It was a wonderful process to talk to him about the look for the podcast, which of course is a non visual medium, and it helped remind me of some of my goals for the podcast— my hopes and why I’m even doing this thing. So thank you again, you’re a wonderful creative collaborator.”

The FINAL FACT

Dern and I used to work together at Funny Or Die. One day Nate, Natasha, and Nathan all accidentally matched. It was a sight to see!
