Movie Cram 3
The Cicada Hunk
Movie Cram is one of the most ambitious projects I’ve ever been associated with: a film is completely made in 24 hours... The Cicada Hunk was written, cast, shot, edited, scored, VFX’d, and premiered in one day to a live raucous audience. It's a feat unlike I ever seen.
For the third year I was sit-in art director helping various teams with creative assets and making the movie poster + movie credits. The movie this year was a goofy take on a rom-com about a cicada falling in love after being asleep for 17 years.

Movie Poster
To reflect the scientific nature of the characters, I made a bug field guide showing different types of cicadas, with our main character highlighted in the shape of a heart. It was started and finished in 1 hour.

Like the run-and-gun effort of all the filming teams, we made the credits as a DIY notebook with scientific observations in it. (It features the original music made for the film.)

NY Times: The film did, however, carve out a small niche in cinematic history
Vulture: What makes Movie Cram so singularly inspiring is the passion it charts
The FINAL FACT
Entomologists believe that periodical cicadas evolved to emerge every 13 to 17 years to avoid syncing up with the population booms of their predators.
